"At Exeter, the rigors of the classroom and the responsibilities that accompany residential life all come together to create that unique Exeter atmosphere that is so alive with the notion of non sibi-and that notion becomes a part of your soul. This sense of 'not for self alone' is what inspired me to begin volunteering for Exeter. I started with phonathons because they seemed like an easy way to get involved; I could just show up and know that there would be a job to do. I found that this was a great way to reconnect with classmates and make a difference. "It wasn't until my 20th reunion that I became more officially involved as a class agent. Soon I was branching out in different directions-as an appointed director of the General Alumni/ae Association and a co-chair of the 1781 Society. For my 25th, which was this year, I felt like I reconnected with so many classmates as we were leading up to the celebration. I get a great deal of personal satisfaction knowing that what I'm doing as a volunteer is helping to keep Exeter evolving. We all have an obligation to build upon the excellence of the Academy, both to honor those who came before us and to secure Exeter's preeminence for those to come." -Monica Shelton-Reusch '77 Class agent; appointed director of the General Alumni/ae Association; co-chair of the national committee of the 1781 Society
At press time, brochures were in the mail to all alumni/ae regarding Exeter's new official school ring. It is a signet ring featuring the PEA seal, and the single design is intended to symbolize the unity of all Exonians across generations of alumni/ae. Members of the class of 2002 received their rings in April during a special ceremony on campus. In a show of solidarity, the seniors put on their rings en masse, then celebrated with cheers and refreshments. The Exeter ring is now available to all alumni/ae. For more information, see the official brochure in your mailbox or call John Maier, manager of the Exeter Bookstore at (603) 777-3496; jmaier@exeter.edu.
If your PEAN has disappeared in the shuffle of life, a limited number of copies are available for almost every class up to 1991. Postage and packaging fee, $10. Call or write Beverly Schneider in the alunni/ae affairs office at (603) 777-3474; bschneider@exeter.edu |
